Is Time Speeding Up?

Posted by admin on Oct 18, 2009 in Random Thoughts

Is time speeding up?

I used to think time was relative- a year when you’re 6 is 1/6th of your life; a year when you’re 60 is 1/60th of your life. It makes sense that time seems to speed up as we get older. I often hear seniors say “the hours go slow, the years go fast”.

But my kids are commenting how fast the hours, weeks, months and years are going, and I have to agree.

I’m wondering if it has sometime to do with the speed of light changing, or maybe there is some theological significance from Daniel. I’ll research theological angle and get back to you.

If anyone can confirm my thoughts about the speed of light, I’d appreciate you.

2012 is coming up you know, and the timeline for “88 Reasons Why Christ Must Return in 1988″ comes back into play, along with the end of the Mayan calendar… Man I’ve got to start writing fiction again :)

Feel the need to blog…

Posted by admin on Oct 6, 2009 in Random Thoughts

I’m printing off a manuscript for “How to Hope at the End of the Rope”. There are still a few significant gaps to close up in the draft, but I wanted to give it to Kaz to read and I know it’s easier for me to edit a hard copy as well. I don’t have the tray capacity for the number of pages so I’m waiting a while for more pages to be done…

And I’m itching to blog.

I have so much to blog about at Empowering Inspiration and Drink From the Deep. I have a growing shelf of books I’ve read that are ready to be reviewed at RevTrev Reviews. But I’ve been holding back because I need to get done ImagineDistribution.com before taking on other projects.

Now I’m in discussions over the sale of ImaginePublishing.com and it seems fitting to include ImagineDistribution.com as well, so until that’s all decided there’s no real point to take on the work that might need to be undone. If the sale doesn’t materialize at this time, I’ll turn ImaginePublishing.com into a blog to help people with all the issues of publishing and self-publishing… I’m thinking about a series on why you should consider your own publishing house.

Anyway, it’s time to change the paper and time to run some errands. Thanks for listening.

Plans for the Fall

Posted by admin on Aug 31, 2009 in Random Thoughts

The best laid plans of mice and men…

We had a prophecy from our pastor yesterday that got me excited… “change is coming, but its not coming how you expect it”

I don’t know why that made me excited. I’ve been planning a lot… books, blogs, businesses, seminars… usually I’m not so quick to say “Here God, take them all away.” I’m just being honest here. This is my blog to rant.

Usually it’s been a fight until I give up and He gives me a new way to look at things. Today I’m saying “Take it all, I don’t want to have anything you don’t want me to have.”

Even though He’s connected me with amazing people that can do the things I can’t to do the things I want, I don’t really own anything that I’m doing now to care if it doesn’t get done they way I’ve planned it.

Does that make sense? I think it does to me.

I don’t know what the surprise is going to be, but I’m ready for it. Bring it on. In the meantime, I’ll carry on doing what I have peace about doing.

We’re teaching “Ministering with Expectancy” in the fall. We’ve been given the go ahead to start a Saturday night service in October. I know I need to finish “How to Hope at the End of the Rope” And I’m putting together what I’ve written over the past 5 years into blog posts to write on 5 blogs for the rest of 2009. Here’s the details for that. I’m starting the week of Sept 14.

This is from my About page on the new TrevorLund.com

teachingtl Plans for the Fall

Hi, I’m Trevor Lund. As a writer I’m known online as RevTrev. I write a number of blogs, short stories, novels, educational material and web copy… oh yah, I love to tweet. I’m happy to talk to you about writing a guest blog or articles for your website.

Streams of Consciousness

 Plans for the Fall

Streams of Consciousness is the blog of RevTrev.com with thoughts and insights from the day-to-day of everyday. It’s more drawn out than my twitter feed, but not as polished as Drink From the Deep. or Empowering Inspiration.
It’s a place for me to share my many thoughts on many things… you may not find it interesting, but as of today I can do it all from my iPhone.

RevTrev Reviews

 Plans for the Fall

I post 2 times a week and an email is sent out every Thurs AM
Honest and honoring – I’m often asked to review books, DVD’s, web applications, and informational products. I love doing it as it makes me a better writer and usually gets me some amazing free products. Sign up for the weekly emails and download a copy of “How to Judge and Not Be A Jerk” – it’s great for passing along to people who – well- are being jerks.

Web Advice

 Plans for the Fall

I post 3 times a week and an email is sent out every Tuesday AM.

I have many years developing websites and everything I’ve learned comes from mistakes I’ve made. I’ll give you tips for Joomla and Wordpress, SEO and SEM as well as Social Marketing on Facebook and Twitter. Sign up for weekly emails and download a copy of “Follow Me As I Follow Christ – a blueprint for Kingdom Influence” with all my secrets for getting and connecting with so many great followers on Twitter. I could sell this book for $97 $49 $29.99 and it would be well worth it. Hey, why not give it away to people who’ll grow in influence and tweet about it for me?

Book Coach

 Plans for the Fall

I post 3 times a week and an email is sent out every Thursday AM.
Having self-published many times and having helped many others do the same, I’m excited with The Book Coach to share tips on writing, editing, formatting, and marketing. I may even get around to writing about agents and traditional publishers… especially once I get picked up by a great one. Sign up for the weekly emails and download a copy of “Book Marketing For the Rest of Us” with tips to sell every book you print.

Killing time

Posted by admin on Aug 11, 2009 in Random Thoughts

I’m waiting for an appointment, trying to be patient. I’ve outline the rest of my book – that started out as a booklet – until Karen read it and said “teach people how to hope.”

So I rewrote it and realized, even with everthing I leftout, it would make a 200 page booklet. So I’m about to have another book.

It’s too much info for a sermon, so it’ll be at least one seminars, maybe three. Did I forget the title? It’s “How to Hope at the end of The Rope”

I’m posting parts of it at www.empoweringinspiration.com

I have a book to give away to people who sign up for the emails. Oh just got called in need to go.

So I Was Thinking…

Posted by admin on Jun 21, 2009 in Random Thoughts

I was in the shower just a few minutes ago and I started thinking about what it means to be a Father… well actually I was thinking about a friend asking me about my opinion on what GPS to get for geocaching. I think I came to that thought because some of the wounds from my first geocaching expedition – which I didn’t know was going to happen and I was totally unprepared for anything but a casual stroll – started to sting in as the soap and water interacted with them.

I told my friend I had no opinion on what GPS to get. We went with a friend. Once. I as I said it was spontaneous. Sure, I downloaded an app for my iPhone, but I still haven’t figured out how to download a local listing from geocaching.com. They give a video, but I was with my wife’s family for lunch and it didn’t seem like watching a video was the appropriate thing do to. So I don’t know much about geocaching.

I don’t know much about finding things either. I’m going to be honest here – I have two boxes in my brain. One is common to man – as opposed to women, this really makes us different – let’s call it the “nothing” box. We could spiritualize it and call it meditation or soaking, but really all it is the ability to sit still and link – literally – about well, nothing.

It’s not a scam. We’re not covering up anything. As men we can easily think about nothing. It’s how we relax. It’s great to unwind. It’s not fantasy, it’s not escapism. It’s “nothing.”

But I have another box in my brain and that one is constantly thinking. I spend most of my time hear. Right now I’m thinking about 4 websites to create or update, 3 booklets, 2 novels to write and a screenplay to pitch. This is my “Creative Box” Sunday mornings seem to be when the creativity juices bubble up. I often dream up a new project or find solutions for problems I stopped at with other projects while I’m in the hot tub.

Our hot tub! It’s either got a leak or evaporating rapidly. I think I remember it happening once before when the lid wasn’t sealed and I wasn’t in it for a while to see it decrease. I’ll give it a couple of days to see if it gets noticeably lower. I’ve got to to change some deck boards anyway, so maybe I can rip it out. I’ll need to get someone to haul it away…

…why am I considering geocaching? I can’t find anything. I can look for something I know is in the fridge and if I’m in my creative box, I won’t see it or find it. I don’t know why they let people like me drive – cell phones nothing – I wrote the intro to a new booklet on the way out to pick up my daughter from horse riding yesterday, sure I could have used the voice recorder on the iPhone, but there’s something about pen to paper.

It’s the kids. That’s why I want to get into geocaching. My daughter can find just about anything. My son is pretty good at it to. I remember Taya was about 2 1/2 when she started finding things for me, my life got so much better. Getting stuff for Kaz became Daddy-daughter time and it cut down on my search time – as you can imagine, it takes me a while to remember what I’m looking for when I’m in the creative box.
Kian – when he’s board at church – looks for gold flecks and gems. He’s found some in places we’ve been — I have a stash in my Bible.

So kids are great for many reasons – most of which you’ll never hear in today’s sermon.

I’ve decided to make use of my creative box and take this blog back to it’s original purpose – my streams of consciousness. You won’t get auto posts from my other blogs, you may still get posts from YouTube – I can’t remember how I set up that feature but boy is it cool, you won’t get daily twitter updates.. I was going to do weekly, but I get overwhelmed with the posts, so why should I pass it on to you?

And if I get my act together, Sunday seems like a great time to post.

Happy Father’s Day dad’s. Make sure you thank the mother of your kids for making you one.

Just chillin

Posted by admin on Mar 15, 2009 in Random Thoughts, Really Good Stuff

I’m sitting at church with my iPhone, waiting to run to pick up Kaz’s grandparents. Kaz is here early to lead music. The kids are running around. No worries.

I feel like writing and this blog seemed like a good place.

I’m being inundated (there’s no spell check on this thing, is that how you spell that word?) with tweeps following me on twitter. It’s cool- 1500+ people, sure most of then are there to sell you how to sell, some have products, some have services. Most are really amazing people.

I know. I go to everyone’s site. I like to pray for them and what they’re doing. I’ve made some incredible connections. There are awesome people doing awesome things.

And the ministries I’ve connected with- wow. Sure, some need better websites, but that’s why we have AskandImagine.com – I’m happy to lend suggestions and help when I can.

I don’t follow people who follow 1999 people and
a. Have only 50 followers or
b. Only have 1 or 2 twits (postings)

The first group is only interested in spamming the second… I’m not sure they’re interested in connecting. I want to get to know people, not just read they’re combing their hair. If they want to listen in on my conversations, I don’t care, but I don’t want to be following them if they’re not part of the conversation.

I don’t follow people who sell themselves.

I’ll likely not follow people who use the precious 140 characters to spout barnyard talk. I mean really, this is poetry, express yourself with more of the 180,000 words in English.

I tend not to follow those not writing English – I need to understand in order to connect.

Some people don’t like automated responses, and frown on including links in those automated responses. I love them and have three in my automated response from tweetlater.com

I don’t know how to add HTML to this post, and I have some amazing links people sent me. I need to run to get Babou and Greatpa, so I’ll update this post in a bit and explain a few more things, give props to peeps, and let you know why I love following @hookersforJesus

Later.

Two New Blogs Ready to Roll

When you get organized, you can get a lot of things done. This week is a full one for me, but I’m glad I feel ready to get after it.

I’ve been able to finish setting up RevTrev Reviews and Web Advice. This week I’ve committed to 3 posts a week on each.

Reviews tagline is “Because you deserve my opinion”. It’s tongue-in-cheek as I plan to keep the reviews. I have 4 manuscripts from unpublished books sitting on my desk and hard drive, so I know people want my opinion on writing :) . Almost everything I review will be from our online store (that I often forget I have) www.EmpoweringInspiration.com but we’ll see how it goes.

Web Advice comes from my currently active 21 website experience. With the huge mistakes I’ve made over the years, and people who use our services at www.IntegrityOnlineServices.com asking me advice, I thought I’d better start writing it down.

Well, I have 10 training/ministry sessions over the next 30 days to prepare for, 7 sermons to write for Life Above the Negativity, and I need to update RevTrev.com, AskandImagine.com and type up the latest blog for Drink From the Deep

Maybe I should pull an all-nighter? Probably better to watch the next episode of Laugh Yourself to a Better Marriage with Kaz.

That’s it.

OOOH, just thought of things to update with this site… do I go crazy or leave it be?

Really ticked off that a junta of losers may succeed in overthrowing the democratically elected government of Canada.

Posted by admin on Dec 1, 2008 in Random Thoughts

I need to explain this tweet to followers on twitter. This is not an easy thing to do.

How do you explain to people outside the Canadian system that our tax dollars are the main means for a party formed for the break up of Canada? It’s easy enough to say “The Liberals are deeply in debt and can’t raise support since corporations and unions have been disallowed to contribute.” That would seem to justify their talks with the NDP to form a new coalition government.

But Stephen Harper blinked! He backed away from including that provision as a confidence vote. The crisis was averted… much to my chagrin.

However, I, like most Canadians we’re not aware of the long term meetings between the three elected opposition parties aimed at grabbing power when they were not elected to hold power.

Maybe I should explain are current state in Canadian politics… We have a first-past-the-post electoral system. That means, the person with the most votes in a riding gets elected. With three, sometimes four arguably viable national parties and another number of parties running in certain ridings – often the one with the most votes, doesn’t have the majority of votes.

This only matters for the rhetoric.

We’ve had a minority Liberal government that was corrupt and so was replaced with a minority Conservative government. That government called for another election when they had a shot at getting a majority. This was just before the current world economic crisis. Did they know it was coming? Probably. Don’t care.

They screwed up by running on their record and not on their vision for the future. They mis-handled arts funding in Quebec and let the opposition parties, primarily the separatists take the high ground. I wish they would have mentioned they would intervene in the economy when it was necessary, instead of just saying “we’re not in the same position as the US”. They ran a sub-Harper campaign and got rewarded with another minority government.

Did I forget to explain the minority government? Sorry. You see, in Canada we elect a king. When a party has enough seats to form a majority government – meaning they have enough votes to pass any laws and they have enough people to chair every committee – our Prime Minister has more power than any US President. He picks the senators and Supreme Court Justices. He sets the budget. Our checks and balances only happen at the next election… which he (or she) can set at the time of his (or her) choosing.

I really didn’t like that system and often spoke about the merits of a minority government until today. Any credit I gave to politicians working for the good of the people has been shattered. There is nothing but politics in a minority government.

You see the Liberals, who have the fewest seats since… I don’t know when, and who are led by a leader who has already resigned without quiting – and the NDP, who is everyone’s second choice, but who no one actually wants to govern – and the Bloc, whose stated goals in order are 1. the separation of Quebec from Canada and 2. that “we’ll only vote what is best for Quebec.” together have more seats than the ruling Stephen Harper government.

And in typical arrogance, they’ve chosen cabinet seats and have a 30 billion dollar plan to kick-start a 1.3 trillion dollar economy, that just happened to not recede last quarter. That’s right – we still haven’t had 1 quarter of negative growth (I love that term). And it takes 2 before we have a recession.

Let’s point out the obvious… a trillion US dollars haven’t kick-started the US economy. How can so small an amount influence ours? Second point, even if we start a stimulus package now, the recession will be over before the dollars are spent (It could take 6 – 18 months to come online). Third point, we have billions already allotted for infrastructure that are held up by bureaucratic procedures. Fourth point… we haven’t had a quarter of negative growth in our economy.

Don’t let the “coalition of losers” tell you this about the economy. It’s not even about them losing government funding to function when they don’t have the confidence of the people who get far too generous tax breaks for giving to political parties.

This is about power. It is about fixing the stupidity of the Canadian electorate – that’s you and me (if you’re a Canadian and you voted… I know, I had to hold my nose to.) And our crazy system means that an appointed official representing the British Crown will ask this junta to form a government IF they pass a no-confidence vote against the conservative government.

It looks like the vote will be in a week.

But I’m not one just to whine. If they want a revolution, I say, let’s go all the way.

What if we changed our electoral system to be a mixture of first-past-the-post and percentage vote? Every voter could cast 2 votes – one for the candidate, one for the party. The percentage of the vote for the party would equal the amount of seats they have in the Senate. Each party would draw up a list of names, ranked in order. I’d suggest the party leader would first, followed by experts in key cabinet positions. The party with the most seats in the two houses would form the government.

The PM would come from the Senate. It’s a joke to have a party leader represent a riding. Who really things they can do both jobs adequately? The same holds true for cabinet positions. Free talented people up to do the best job possible. By voting for the party, we’d vote for the prime minister.

Curb the power of the Prime Minister, put in checks and balances. Fixed election dates are a must. Supreme Court appointees must be vetted by committee. The PM can pick the cabinet.

The Senate can pass bills relating to the House of Commons. The Commons can pass bills relating to the Senate. Committees should be from both Houses, so bills could come from either house. They would need to pass both houses and would come into law with the signature of the Prime Minister. (I’ve always liked the Governor General position, but this situation shows its ridiculousness.)

We need to get rid of the physical set up of our houses. The government and opposition sit 2 sword-lengths apart. Is it any wonder why question period is an embarrassment? Ministers must give account to the people of Canada. Why can’t this be done in committee, when all parties on the committee can be questioned? Why can’t questions be asked in a way that leads to answers? Why can’t answers be given?

We need a Culture of Honour in Ottawa.

It’s a sad day to be Canadian.

New theme, new blog…

Posted by admin on Nov 24, 2008 in Random Thoughts, Shameless Self-Promotion

This blog has been my longest running one. I started it in New Zealand, probably on Blogger. I moved it to AskandImagine.com when I launched that website, until we decided to turn that into our web design and hosting business. It was actually on AskandImagine.ca before I snapped up the dot com.

Then I moved it to a subdomain of RevTrev.com and started to post random “God Thoughts”. Then I got an iPhone and found it so easy to update when I was waiting to meet someone, or as I waited to pick up the kids from school.

Then came Twitter…. and typing 140 characters became so much easier than trying to craft a full blog posting… and 800+ followers later I’m addicted.

I’m meeting so many cool people. I’m praying with people and we’re seeing miracles. Almost every day I get a business connection for ImaginePublishing.com or a ministry connection for Expectancy Ministries I even found a cool template creator for Word Press themes I can’t wait to try out for a client. ThemesPress.com

So with all my time on twitter counting as both ministry and business marketing, I soon came to the conclusion I need to simplify my life. So we’re selling ImagineWriters.com and putting our plans on hold for ImagineDistribution.com – now there’s a rant I may just keep to myself. We may sell off ImagineSyndication.com, ImagineFriends.com and ImagineFriends.info along with a dozen more sites I can’t even remember without my cheat sheet. This is to give me time to develop MiracleNewsToday.com, EncouragingEmails.com and LifeAbovetheNegativity.com as well as writing regularly at DrinkFromtheDeep.com AND… here’s the rub… using this blog as a rant refuge — you know, a place to talk about my many thoughts in a way that doesn’t seem as sad as the multiple mind maps attached to my magnet board.

And I think this new theme from Laptop Geek captures not only my own desktop, but also my too-cool gmail theme.

So I don’t expect so much shameless self-promotion in most of my rants… and truthfully, most days I don’t have time to rant. I don’t make time to even write in my journal… which reminds me – too late, Dragon’s Den is on – time for Daddy – Daughter – Time.

Enjoying the weather

Posted by admin on Oct 18, 2008 in Random Thoughts

Madison and Taya and I decided it was too nice of a day to spend inside.

I was having fun creating 3D covers for the books I want to highlight on www.TrevorLund.com as well as in the catalog I’ll be sending out to church leaders to let them know about Expectancy Ministries – www.expectanyministries.com

But it’s October, and the days are shorter, and there is no snow on the ground, so why not make hay while the sun shines?

I’m looking forward to the Key tonight – http://theKey.expectancyministries.com
Can’t wait to see what the Father will do.

I’ve decided next week to pray during the third watch 3:00-9:00. The furnace is on in the garage. I have no excuses to put it off again. It’d be great to make it a habit, but I know not to bite off more than I can chew…

Did I ever use a lot of cliques in this post? Better go play.

 Enjoying the weather
