Urge to Write

Posted by admin on Mar 11, 2009 in Reviews, Shameless Self-Promotion

I woke up with thoughts of blog articles running through my head. I can’t wait to get at RevTrev Reviews. When I physically got up, I started feeling physically ill. Last night I dreamed I was throwing up and when I woke up at 3:00, I felt like I had. Now it’s feeling like I should.

“Waking up” and “feelings” seem to be on my mind at this time in the morning. I got up to read the Bible. I’m through the New Testament and half way through the Old. Like to get it done so I can start again. Some seasons the Word just consumes me…. why am I rambling about that? I wanted to write about the RevTrev Reviews.

I really shouldn’t be reviewing more books. I have a few from people considering publishing through ImaginePublishing.com – those are so I can give an honest assessment of what they should do. I’ve just become a reviewer… let me re-word that… Thomas Nelsons publicity department has put me on a list to review the books they are about to release. I didn’t want to give the impression that I was reviewing manuscripts they were considering for publishing. The books I get are ones that they are looking to promote, not deciding to publish. I want that to be clear so all you writers out there, don’t think you have a back door to the top of the slush pile… I know how you think. I’m one of you. :) I’ve sent in my first review to the publicist and will post it on my site as well. It’s a good book, and fits well with my book “Life Above the Negativity – from 10 minutes a day” It’s available at our bookstore… but I’m in the process of moving that bookstore to ExpectancyMinistries.com because:

a. it needs upgrading
b. the latest template on RevTrev.com really screws up the look of the store. (so see a. above)

The purpose of RevTrev Reviews was to review books we sell at EmpoweringInspiration.com but three things jumped out at me.

1. DVD’s are easier to watch.
2. DVD’s are less of an investment of time.
3. I happen to have quite a few of the best DVD’s we sell at Empowering Inspiration.

Don’t worry, I’m constantly reading. I’ll be doing book reviews as well. My daughter Taya is also an avid reader AND I’ve seen her book reviewing skills. We’ve negotiated a deal that makes her excited to be a featured blogger on the site.

Anyway, still have an hour before the kids get up, so I’d better get to my first passion.

Was that 3 things under point 1. ?

OK, I get it… I think

Posted by admin on Oct 10, 2008 in Random Thoughts

OK, I get it… I think.

I’ve been looking for two days for my favourite pen. It’s a space pen.

No, it didn’t come from space, that’s how it’s marketed. It could write in space. It writes upside down, and vertically – both features I’ve enjoyed. It can also write underwater, but I can’t figure out how to get paper underwater without destroying it.

I love this pen because it’s small and I can use it anywhere. It’s always with me. Except when I loose it.

Which happens on occasion.

A few weeks ago I thought it went through the wash again. But when it didn’t turn up, I went looking. I found it next to my moleskin notebook, that I’ve basically set aside since I got my iPhone.

I’ve mod-ed another moleskin to hold my iPhone and carrying two is cumbersome when you don’t wear a jacket.

But it’s October in Edmonton and I’ve been telling my kids ” daddy should have worn socks today”.

And I should have, it’s cold sitting in the park, waiting for Kaz to do what she needs to at work, updating my blog on my oh-so-cool iPhone.

But you know, I read my notes in the moleskin the other day. I have shopping lists, to-do lists, novel research, nonfiction outlines, sermon thoughts, Bible verses that have jumped into my thoughts… And I realized I have history recorded on those pages.

When I use to-do lists, or notes on the iPhone, it’s gone when it’s time to move on. Sure, if I save it on my Mac, spotlight can find it quickly. That feature made my day yesterday, when I couldn’t get tech support for my less-than-standard problems with www.ImagineDistribution.com. But there’s something more permanent about words on a page.

Which is why I love my space pen.

But after I found it, I lost it the next day.

It wasn’t under the files on my desk, or in my jacket or pants pockets. I wasn’t too concerned but prayed “God, I love that pen, can you help me find it?”

It worked out well.

The next day I found it on the passanger seat in our van.

How it got there, I don’t know. I assumed I took it out without thinking and left it there. Although I had no reason to do that. The last time I remember seeing it was the Costco parking lot, when it fell out of my coat jacket pocket to the ground. I picked it up and put it in the frontpockets of my jeans where it would be safe.

It wasn’t. I lost it. I found it on the seat next to me.

Fast forward a week. Last night I was sure I must have left it on my desk under the new filed I opened since I last cleaned my desk looking for the pen. It wasn’t.

I figured it was lost for good. The last place I remember it was when I left my coat in the car, went into the store with both moleskins and my space pen in my hands. I put them in my back pockets, thinking that wasn’t the safest place for my pen.

I searched everwhere it could be. It wasn’t anywhere I looked. I prayed again “Lord, I really don’t want to buy another one because I lost it.”

I told Kaz I’d wait for her at the park. I figured I could get some writing done. I brought another pen.

But when I got here, right beside me, where Kaz was sitting, was my space pen.

Same location.

Twice.

Both times it should not have been there.

Both times a prayer was answered.

I don’t care if you think I’m crazy. I’m considering this as the Father’s favour on me.

God loves you – but I’m His favourite.

And I have my space pen to prove it.

Keeping up

Posted by admin on Oct 8, 2008 in Shameless Self-Promotion

It’s been a while since I’ve updated this site. I haven’t had too much time alone with my iPhone and when I’m behind the computer… Well, let’s just say I have a lot on the go.

In fact last week I tried listing all my websites. I couldn’t remember them all. We’re looking into selling a few.

But that didn’t stop me from setting up a new writing site for myself. Actually it’s been set up for a while as a wordpress site, but what I wanted to do made switching it over to the Joomla CMS a better choice.

So I did. It still needs content and I’m having issues with my WYSIWYG extension, but as soon as it’s up I’ll let you all know.

I’m doing it in my spare time.

Along with other things like changing taps and winterizing the hot tub.

Which do you think I count as “fun”?

What to do when you wait

Posted by admin on Sep 5, 2008 in Random Thoughts, Reviews

This week I’ve been away from my newly redesigned office too much. But along the way I’ve really loved the iPhone.

Take right now, I have some time before my next meeting and so I can update this blog.

There are some decisions to make today and I thank you all for your prayers.

Better run.
